Better Product Pages for Your Squarespace Store
Squarespace has some useful built-in features that can make your products more engaging and easier to browse. Quick view, image zoom, and hover effects are all there waiting to be switched on, but they're not always obvious to find.
Quick View
Quick view opens product details in a popup window without taking customers away from your main store page. It's handy for keeping people browsing instead of clicking back and forth.
For product blocks and summary blocks:
- Edit your block and go to the Design tab
- Turn on Product Quick View
- Save your changes
For store pages:
- Open page settings
- Go to Advanced
- Switch on the Quick View toggle
You'll need to do this for each store page separately (it's not a site-wide setting, unfortunately).
Image Zoom
Image zoom lets customers get a closer look at your products by enlarging the photos. Really useful for showing texture, materials, or fine details.
Squarespace 7.1:
- Go to any product page and click Edit
- Click the pencil icon on your product images
- Find the Hover Action dropdown and select Zoom
Squarespace 7.0:
- Go to Design > Site Styles
- Look for Products: Image Zoom section
- Turn it on
Important: Image zoom doesn't work on mobile devices in Squarespace. Your mobile visitors will just see the regular product images.
Hover Effects
Hover effects add some visual interest when people move their mouse over product images. You might see alternate images, fade effects, or product information overlays.
The options you get depend on which template family you're using. Brine, Farro, Skye, Tremont, and York families have the most hover effect options.
To set these up, look in your design settings for hover animation options. Each template handles this slightly differently.
Getting the Best Results
Make sure your product images are properly optimised for web use. Large, uncompressed images will make zoom features slow and clunky.
Test everything on both desktop and mobile. Some features work differently (or not at all) depending on the device.
Remember that 7.0 and 7.1 handle these features in different ways, so the exact steps might vary depending on which version your site uses.
Common Questions
Can I change the "quick view" button text?
No, you're stuck with Squarespace's default text for this one.
Why doesn't image zoom work on my phone?
It's a Squarespace limitation. Image zoom only works on desktop devices.
Which templates support hover effects?
Most of the newer template families have some hover options, but Brine, Farro, Skye, Tremont, and York have the most variety.
These features won't revolutionise your store overnight, but they do make browsing more pleasant for your customers. The key is setting them up properly and knowing their limitations before you rely on them too heavily.
