How to Connect Your Squarespace Blog to Apple News
Getting your Squarespace blog posts onto Apple News can help you reach a much wider audience. Here's exactly how to set it up.
What You'll Need Before Starting
You need an existing Apple News Publisher account and access to your Squarespace site. If you don't have an Apple News Publisher account yet, you'll need to apply for one through Apple (this isn't the same as a regular Apple News reader account).
Setting Up the Connection
Get Your Apple News Credentials
- Log into Apple News Publisher
- Go to the API section and select 'Connect CMS'
- You'll see three pieces of information: API Key, Channel ID, and Secret Code
- Copy these somewhere safe (the Secret Code only shows once)
Connect in Squarespace
- Open your Squarespace site and go to Pages
- Click on your blog page
- Go to the Settings tab, then Feeds
- Look for the Apple News section
- Enter your API Key, Channel ID, and Secret Code
- Click Save
Once you save, Squarespace automatically sends your 20 most recent blog posts to Apple News as drafts.
Review and Publish Your Posts
Back in Apple News Publisher:
- Check the 'Drafts' section to see your imported posts
- Review how they look (Apple News formats them differently than your blog)
- Submit a few posts for Apple's review process
- Once approved, publish them
After this initial setup, any new blog posts you publish on Squarespace will automatically appear in Apple News.
Important Things to Know
Content formatting: Apple News uses its own formatting, so your posts might look different. Text, images, and layout will adapt to Apple's style. Always preview before publishing.
Automatic publishing: Once set up, new posts go straight to Apple News. If you want to review posts before they appear, you can change this in your Apple News Publisher settings.
Multiple blogs: You can connect several Squarespace blogs to the same Apple News channel, or create separate channels for different blogs. Each connection needs its own set of credentials.
If You Want to Disconnect
Go back to your blog settings in Squarespace, find the Feeds tab, and click 'Disconnect' next to Apple News. Your posts will disappear from Apple News within a few hours.
Common Questions
Can I create an Apple News Publisher account through Squarespace?
No, you need to apply directly with Apple first.
Is there a limit on how many posts I can publish?
No limit from Squarespace's side, but Apple News has its own guidelines about content quality and frequency.
What types of content work with Apple News?
Text, images, videos, and audio all transfer over. Some advanced Squarespace blocks might not display perfectly, so check how they look.
Quick Definitions
API Key: A secure code that lets Squarespace talk to Apple News on your behalf
Channel ID: Your unique Apple News channel number
Secret Code: A one-time password for the initial connection (you won't see this again after setup)
Getting the Most from Apple News
Apple News puts your content alongside major publications, which means more visibility for your blog. The key is making sure your posts look good in Apple's format. Spend time checking how your images appear and whether your text flows well.
If you run into issues, Apple News Publisher has detailed help docs, and Squarespace support can help with the connection side of things.
