How to Transfer a Domain from FastDomain to Squarespace
Why Transfer Your Domain to Squarespace?
Moving your domain to Squarespace means one login, one bill, and one place to manage everything. Before you start, check Squarespace's pricing and transfer policies. Also consider what happens to any custom email addresses you have set up.
Before You Begin
Check Transfer Eligibility
Log into your FastDomain account and make sure your domain can be transferred. Your domain needs to be more than 60 days old and have at least 46 days left before renewal.
Update Contact Information
This is important. Wrong contact details will kill your transfer. In FastDomain, go to your domain settings and click the 'Contacts' tab. Make sure your admin contact information is correct and up to date.
Preparing Your Domain for Transfer
Unlock Your Domain
In your FastDomain domain settings, find the 'Lock' tab and make sure your domain is unlocked. Locked domains can't be transferred.
Get Your EPP Code
Click the 'Transfer EPP' tab in FastDomain and copy the EPP code. You'll need this to prove you own the domain when you start the transfer in Squarespace.
Starting the Transfer in Squarespace
- Go to Settings > Domains in your Squarespace account
- Click 'Use a domain I own'
- Type in your domain name
- Select 'Transfer domain' and enter your EPP code
Check Your Registration Details
Make sure the contact information in Squarespace matches what you have in FastDomain. These details will replace your current WHOIS records after the transfer completes.
Add Payment Details
You'll need to pay for an additional year of registration as part of the transfer. Add or confirm your payment method to continue.
Approve the Transfer
FastDomain will send you an email asking you to approve the transfer. Do this straight away rather than waiting for the automatic approval after 5 days.
What Happens Next
Domain transfers typically take 5-15 days to complete. You can check the status in your Squarespace Domains panel.
Important: Don't change your DNS settings or add services like Google Workspace until the transfer is finished. This can cause problems with your website and email.
Common Problems
Transfer fails: Usually because of incorrect contact information or the domain being locked. Double-check these first.
Taking too long: Check your email for approval requests from FastDomain. Sometimes these end up in spam folders.
Domain shows as pending: This is normal. Transfers take time because both registrars need to verify everything.
Jargon Explained
Domain Transfer: Moving your domain registration from one company (FastDomain) to another (Squarespace)
EPP Code: A password that proves you own the domain and authorizes the transfer
DNS Settings: Instructions that tell the internet where to find your website and email
WHOIS Records: Public database showing who owns a domain and their contact details
This process isn't complicated, but it does require patience. Once it's done, you'll have everything managed in one place through Squarespace. If you get stuck on any step, both FastDomain and Squarespace support teams can help sort things out.
