Transferring Your Domain from Crazy Domains to Squarespace

Moving your domain from Crazy Domains to Squarespace puts everything in one place. You'll handle your website and domain through a single dashboard, which makes life easier and keeps all your billing together.
Here's exactly how to do it.

Before You Start

You'll need access to both your Crazy Domains account and your Squarespace site. The whole process takes up to 15 days to complete, but most of the work happens on your end in the first hour.

Step 1: Log Into Crazy Domains

  • Click 'Visit My Account'
  • Select 'Domains'
  • Choose the domain you want to transfer

Step 2: Unlock Your Domain

  • Find 'Domain Lock' in your domain settings
  • If it shows as locked, switch it to 'Off'
  • Save the changes

Step 3: Check Your Contact Details

  • Go to 'Administration'
  • Check both 'Registrant Contact' and 'Admin Contact'
  • Make sure the email addresses are current and you can access them
  • Update any incorrect details

Step 4: Get Your Authorization Code

  • Look for the menu icon (☰) next to your domain name
  • Click 'Registry Key'
  • Copy the code from the 'Password' field

  • Click 'Use a domain I own'

  • Verify your name, address, and contact details

  • This information becomes part of your Squarespace account

Step 7: Sort Out Payment

If your Squarespace site is still on a trial, you'll need to add payment details now. Domain transfers aren't free (expect to pay around the same as a yearly renewal).
Review the charges and confirm your payment method.

Step 8: Complete the Order

Double-check everything one more time:
  • Domain name is correct
  • Contact details are right
  • You're happy with the price
  • Hit confirm to start the transfer

Step 9: Wait and Monitor

Now comes the waiting bit. The transfer happens in the background, but you can check progress:
  • Go back to your Domains panel in Squarespace
  • Refresh to see status updates
  • If you see errors like 'Domain locked' or 'Authorization code needed', you'll need to go back to Crazy Domains and fix them

Step 10: Handle DNS if Needed

Your DNS settings control where your domain points. In most cases, you won't need to touch these during transfer. But if you're using custom email or other services:
  • Click 'Edit DNS' in your Squarespace Domains panel

What Happens Next

Crazy Domains will send you an email asking to confirm the transfer. You'll have 5 days to respond (if you don't respond, it auto-approves).
Once approved, the transfer typically completes within a few days. You'll get confirmation emails from both Crazy Domains and Squarespace.

Common Issues

Authorization code doesn't work: Copy it again from Crazy Domains, making sure you don't grab any extra spaces. Still not working? Contact Crazy Domains support.
Transfer gets rejected: Usually means the domain is still locked or your contact details don't match. Go back through steps 2 and 3.
Taking longer than expected: After 15 days, contact Crazy Domains directly. They can push the transfer through manually.

After Transfer

Once complete, you'll manage everything through Squarespace. Your domain will auto-renew with your site subscription, and you can handle DNS, forwarding, and other domain settings right from your Squarespace dashboard.
The transfer includes one year of registration, so your domain's expiry date extends by 12 months from when the transfer completes.
