404 Page
Definition
A 404 Page is a specialized webpage that appears when someone tries to reach a part of your website that doesn’t exist anymore, often due to an outdated link or a typo in the website address. You can customize this page in Squarespace to redirect visitors back to active parts of your site.
Where you'll find it
In Squarespace, you can create and customize your 404 Page by going to the Pages panel. Once there, select the “Not Linked” section and create a new page named “404”. This feature is available regardless of the plan you're on.
Common use cases
- Redirecting visitors who encounter a broken or non-existent link.
- Providing links to popular or important content on your site to keep visitors engaged.
- Displaying a search bar to help visitors find what they were looking for.
Things to watch out for
- Ensure that your 404 Page maintains the style and tone of your website to provide a seamless user experience.
- Regularly update the links and information on your 404 Page to keep it relevant.
- Avoid using too much text or overly complex instructions that might confuse visitors further.
